Legend says the first act of this “conflict” happened at a summer market back in 1930. A Lithuanian trader showed off a bowl of beet-and-kefir brilliance so dazzling it caught the eye of a Latvian vendor. He quickly added an extra cucumber, hummed a folk tune, and declared that’s the original version.
Lithuanians insist the true refreshment lies in kefir with a side of crispy potatoes. Latvians swear the perfect pink shade appears only if you sing to the beets before boiling them.
But in the end, the spoon settles all debates — the cucumber crunches, the egg smiles, the beet keeps the rhythm, and both nations’ taste buds agree: everyone wins.
